, Government etc. Donald Trump cannot be held accountable because everyone else depends on him for his wealth and influence and now also for his power as President. Politics is about getting people to do what they otherwise wouldn’t have done, maybe for better, maybe for worse. To do this, you must offer rewards, threaten punishment, and/or deceive them. Lying is the cheapest and most effective way. (Agree?) Ordinary politicians have to tell cleverly constructed lies because they depend on funding. They must not offend those on whom they depend. Money is needed in politics, because without money, lies are just lies. But when you put your campaign money in the right channels, your lies become credible, you are believed, and people vote for you. Advertising and political consultants will take care of that for you. Trump is not responsible. He has his own fortune and has been investing in his image, his brand: “TRUMP” for years. Now he can access communication channels almost for free because all he does is news. He paid for the loudest speaker and can drown out almost any resistance. Trump’s credibility does not come from his credibility, but from his brand awareness, fame and fan base. It is based on his ability to advertise. Trump is not responsible for his wealth, so there is no bad publicity for him. These are the uncomfortable facts of our political system, and I hate them. To conclude my answer, I must add that it is also personally unacceptable for me to lie because I will not accept it. I may be far from perfect, but to the best of my knowledge and belief, I choose not to lie because I choose not to compromise my personal quality of life. I would certainly lie to stay alive or save a life etc. No one really knows what they will do until the time comes. Trump supporters have pointed out that Obama and Clinton and others lied, and they are right; that is not OK. But apparently these people don’t realize that a new frontier has been crossed in modern American politics; Things have gotten a lot less right. But the problem of lying politicians has been around for many years. I think the real question should be what we, the people, should do about it. I wrote a previous answer that was meant as a joke with a very serious point. I believe that our society should not allow politicians or advertisers to lie. I noticed that a lot of people didn’t get the irony in my answer and thought I was serious. These voters can even overlook obvious lies. Other people found it tasteless, but I’m not so sure. Why teach failed morals and false philosophies when the facts show that lies are far better? Donald Trump proves that lying gets great results and he is our leader; we should follow him. The only downside might be the castration of the republic. If your representatives lie about their political positions and intentions and make up facts that suit them, then they are obviously not representing anyone or anything but themselves. But I don’t think anyone really cares. Otherwise there would be some consequences on the part of the people and I don’t see that. I don’t think Trump supporters have backed out and Congress is backing him. I bet Trump goes a full eight years. Or more! Why not? We just have to believe.
